How to make the most of Ask AI

Learn how to make a worthwhile prompt whilst using the Ask AI function of Cezanne Insights

Ask AI is designed to help you explore your people data and uncover meaningful insights. To get the most accurate and useful responses, it's important to ask clear, specific questions.

Ask AI works best when your question contains three key ingredients:

  • A metric – What are you measuring?

  • A group of people – Who are you asking about?

  • A timeframe – When are you interested in?

Ask AI attempts to identify these elements in every question. If one or more are missing, it may need to make assumptions, which can reduce the quality of the response.

Good Question

"What was the voluntary turnover rate for managers in the UK over the last 12 months?"

Great Question 🌟

"Summarise the voluntary turnover trend for managers in the UK over the last 12 months and highlight any notable patterns."

Poor Question

"Tell me about turnover."

This question is missing both a population and timeframe, forcing Ask AI to make assumptions

Making a good prompt:

1. Be Specific

The more detail you provide, the more relevant the response will be.

Instead of:

"How are we doing?"

Try:

"How has employee turnover changed within the Sales department over the last 6 months?"

2. Focus on One Question at a Time

Avoid combining multiple topics into a single request.

Avoid:

"Show me turnover, absence, diversity and engagement trends for the whole company."

Better:

"What has been the turnover trend across the company during the last 12 months?"

3. Use Follow-Up Questions

Treat Ask AI like a conversation.

Example:

Question 1

What was the turnover trend for managers during the last 12 months?

Question 2

Which departments contributed most to the increase?

Question 3

Are any locations showing a different trend?

4. Avoid Subjective Language

Ask AI works with data, not opinions.

Avoid:

"Is our turnover bad?"

"Are managers being treated fairly?"

Better:

"How does turnover among managers compare with the company average?"

"What is the promotion rate by gender over the last 3 years?"

5. Include Context

Adding business context helps Ask AI understand exactly what you're looking for.

Example

Instead of:

"Show me absence."

Try:

"Summarise sickness absence trends for office-based employees in the UK during the last 12 months."

6. Start Fresh for New Topics

When switching to a completely different subject, start a new Ask AI conversation rather than continuing an existing thread.

This helps ensure Ask AI focuses on the new topic without carrying previous context into the analysis.
