What are the different types of content within the LMS?

This article will go through the different types of content within the LMS.

Within the LMS there are five different types of content that can be made.

They are:
  •  Assets
  • Modules
  • Courses
  • Learning Paths
  • Collections

Please see below for an idea as to what they relate to.

Assets:
These are seen as extra reading and support documents for your learners, these can be things such as company policies relating to a specific compliance course or they could be blank documents for your learners to download.

Modules:
These are what goes into a course itself, several modules are put into a course to make up that learning. These modules can be various types from assessment, checklists, pages of information or even modules that you have from a previous provider.

Courses:
These are how learners in our system gain skills and complete learning. These courses are made up of different modules put together in order and a learner would only be able to complete a course when all the modules within it are completed.

Learning Paths:
These are a sequence of courses put together that learners in our system can complete in order (or out of order depending on your preferences) to gain a series of skills. This will usually be used for a pack of mandatory learning for new starters. Completion percentages for this can be reported on.

Collections:
These are like a folder of different pieces of content that goes together that can be given to a learner as a pack of recommended reading. This differs to a learning path in the sense that collections can have assets, learning paths and courses within them and then it can be given over to a learner or team. An example for this would be to collate a group of content around fire safety and then give access to all Firewardens within your company.
